Q:
Why using translation software will not do?
A: If you want
«Je donne ma langue au chat»
to be translated "I give my tongue to the cat" (instead of "I
cannot guess, I give up") or "It is raining cats and dogs" to be
translated «Il pleut des chats et des
chiens» instead of
«Il tombe des cordes» or
«Il pleut à verse»,
it is up to you. True, high-end translation software is used at
the United Nations and the European Commission, but only as a
first step, and humans have to intervene to give the text its
final form. The computer can only recognise entries already
present in its memory and is incapable of interpreting a
phrase’s meaning. |
